In order for the Chinese to accomplish their aim of mainland recovery and to fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining world peace, President Chiang gave them a new motto, "Be Firm with Dignity, Be Self`-Reliant with Vigor," as well as to maintain moral and lawful principles. This new motto, shortened to "Dignity with Self-Reliance," has become a guiding principle of the Chinese in their struggle against communism and the Maoist regime.
