    Hello all euronote -collectors

This is my current understanding of the coding of the Europa -series. Please comment if I am wrong.

There is no more ordering country in the code, only printer, plate and place in the plate.

First letter indicates the printer like this:
D - Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych, Warszawa
E - François Charles Oberthur Fiduciaire, Chantepie
H - De La Rue, Loughton
J - De La Rue, Gateshead
    M - Valora, Carregado
N - Österreichische Banknoten und Sicherheitsdruck GmbH, Wien
P - Johan Enschedé en Zonen, Haarlem
    R - Bundesdruckerei GmbH, Berlin
    S - Banca d'Italia, Roma
T - Central Bank of Ireland, Dublin
U - Banque de France, Chamalières
V - Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, Madrid
    W - Giesecke & Devrient GmbH, Leipzig
    X - Giesecke & Devrient GmbH, München
Y - Bank of Greece, Athens
Z - Banque Nationale de Belgique, Bruxelles

Second letter is just running one (like numbers) increasing the possible combinations.

The digits are as in the old serial.

In the short code 1st letter is same as in the 1st letter in the serialnumber and the rest is as before.

The place in the sheet has been given in the serialnumber as follows:
    Link (http)

So, from now on, we don´t collect country-printer-plate combinations but printer-letter-plate combinations. Personally I´m sad since while some countries don´t have note production, they will not have "own" notes any longer:mad:

    Hi Tero

Are you sure? What about Malta, Cyprus, Slovakia....? I want believe, first letter indicates the country where the banknote was printed.

there is not reason to put a "H" instead a "T" if note was printed in Ireland, in fact, if you check the ECB prodution, they talk about countries and not printers, check:

    Thanks for a reply,

I would be more than happy to be wrong! Because current situation would mean that Finland, Malta, Cyprus, Sloveny, Slovaky and Estonia would not have any "own" notes. As a finn, it would be bad news for eurocollecting.

Here at ETC pages there is differen interpretation of current situation, i.e. the letter in the short code would not be same as in the serial in all cases and thus issuing country could be identified: Link (http)

Lets hope they are correct, but insiders in EBT say, notes will not bear the code of issuing country anymore. ECB has not given any official declaration yet: Link (http)

So at the moment we just have to wait and hope that we´ll see a note where the first letter of the serial number and first letter of the short code are different.

5€:: BE, ES, FR, IT, AT
So, new Europa series fivers should come out only with those printers as allready seen, namely Z, V, U, S and N.

10€:: DE, GR, FR, IE, PT
It will be interesting to see, whether all of these and larger denominations will be old series or partly Europa -series

20€:: CY, EE, FR, IT, MT, LU, NL, SI, SK, FI

    50€: BE, DE, ES, IT

    100€: DE

    200€: DE

    500€: -

This is what I was afraid of:
No Europa -notes for Finland, Cyprus, Malta, Estonia, Sloveny or Slovaky!
