1806 NAVAL POSTAL HISTORY entire, addressed to "Admiral Lord Duckworth, Admiralty Office, London," with "TORTOLA 20 SEP 1806 " two line postal marking and manuscript 2/- applied, "NOV 2 1806" arrival mark on reverse. Fascinating contents, written by a John Faucet, begging the Admiral for financial assistance due to the loss of the writer's schooner which was "cut out of Porto Rico..." Relating to 1806 Battle of San Domingo, where our writer was taken on board HMS Kingfisher, at Tortola, on 2nd February as a pilot, he will have been present at the battle with the French. Afterwards he was put on board HMS Epervier to return to St. Thomas, but was landed at Antigua on 4th May.
